Veneers are wafer-thin ceramic shells that are bonded to the front sides of teeth – a simple yet effective and also quite durable way to perform some aesthetic corrections in the anterior teeth area. A chipped, stained or unproportionally small tooth interrupts the beautiful aesthetics of a row of regular teeth?
What is it that prevents you from smiling with abandon? Gaps between your front teeth? Are your teeth too small, slightly misaligned, or shortened by abrasion? Do you suffer from eroded enamel that exposes the yellowish dentin?
Correcting such small or not-so-small blemishes is actually not a very big deal: Individually created veneers may straighten, prolong or widen incisors and canines according to your wishes and/or give your teeth the light color that may have been impossible to achieve or maintain by bleaching.

Fitting and placing veneers
There will be two appointments: During the first, the enamel at the front of the teeth that will be fitted with veneers is minimally sanded. An impression of the dental arch is taken. This impression will be used by the dental lab technicians to produce suitable veneers from a tooth-colored, slightly translucent ceramic material.
Meanwhile, your teeth are temporarily provided with plastic veneers. During the second appointment, the provisionals are removed and the ceramic shells glued to the teeth. Actually, this “glueing” is a sophisticated adhesion technique that produces a very durable bond between tooth and ceramic: The veneers practically become a part of your tooth, optically as well as functionally.
Veneer solutions are aesthetically perfect and fully fit for normal dental “wear and tear”: Just treat your veneered teeth like ordinary, “unimproved” teeth. Taking hearty bites out of an apple is no problem at all – and please brush your veneered teeth just as thoroughly as the rest of your teeth! Veneers even have an advantage over crowns: Preparation for veneers sacrifices only very little tooth substance. Veneers last at least 10 years. Should an exchange become necessary, it will be way less complicated than with crowns.
Requirements for veneers
Tooth and surrounding gums must be healthy: no caries, no gingivitis or periodontitis. Teeth with heavy caries or multiple fillings are better off with a crown. Eroded enamel or heavy bruxism are contraindications: We cannot guarantee the lasting success of veneers in those cases.
For teeth that have a fairly dark, gray color, as it may be the case with non-vital teeth, the aesthetic results of veneers often disappoint somewhat, as the dark color of the tooth will still show through the translucent ceramic shell. An internal bleaching prior to placing the veneers may improve the initial color and thereby the final result.
Most frequent uses for veneers in the front tooth region:
- Splintered, chipped or strongly abraded teeth
- Discolored Teeth
- Visible fillings
- Teeth of different sizes
- Small gaps between the front teeth
- Slightly twisted teeth
